by DL Byron on August 31, 2005

inFlightHQ’s newsfeed will keep you informed whenever we post new content on our blog.

The technology behind our feed is RSS, an acronym for Really Simple Syndication, which is an XML format for distributing news headlines on the Web, also known as a newsfeed. The advantage of RSS is that you can can read headlines from multiple sites in one application. There are a few flavors of feeds. If you’re not sure, use RSS.

There is no charge to subscribe to our news feeds. They’re free and include

Flightcast is a podcast, which is a feed for audio/video files.

How to Use the feed

Use a newsreader application like FeedDemon, Newsgator, or NewsFire. Then, copy and paste the URL of the news feed into the application’s "subscribe" dialogue. You can also use a web-based application like Bloglines or Yahoo.

Browsers like Apple’s Safari, Firefox, and a future version of Internet Explorer for Windows have built-in support for feeds.

Self-Heating coffee

by David on August 14, 2005

Would you prefer to drink your latte on your own schedule?  Then keep your eyes out for a new self-heating coffee by Ontech, LLC. A compartment in the bottom of the can segregates calcium oxide and water, and when the seal is broken, the reaction heats your Wolfgang Puck coffee to 145°F in just 6 minutes. I just bought a 4-pack at my local grocery for $9.99.

Would you like to have a complete and updated list of all airline timetables at your fingertips? here’s a solution…….

by David on August 7, 2005

OAG Worldwide offers ‘OAG Flight-Finder North America Plus‘ for Palm or Pocket PC PDA platforms, giving the user an opportunity to travel lightly with complete, unbiased and independent (giving access to schedules not always available from travel agents or travel web sites) North American airline flight schedules. All the data is automatically updated each time you sync…….and OAG Worldwide also offers a Europe, Latin America and Asia version as well. I found mine for $39 at Handango.

Finding WIFI access when on the road (or even better beforehand)

by Steve Broback on August 5, 2005

When I’m getting ready for a trip, I consult with jwire to see where the hotspots are before I depart. Often it pulls through on finding great access in even the most remote locations. For example, I’m headed for Siren Wisonsin (population 992) tomorrow with the family. While I’m there I will very much need to have connectvity, and even AOL doesn’t have an access number within 100 miles of the place. Luckily I logged into jwire and discovered that there’s a hotspot at a coffee shop right in town.

it’s great for checking out access options at airports too…
