Sky Harbor Looks at Remote Check-In

by Teresa Valdez Klein on September 21, 2006

Arizona’s Sky Harbor airport is looking to join the growing number of airports nationwide to offer remote check in at popular local hubs such as hotels, conference centers and bus stations. Similar services already exist in Chicago, Los Angeles and a number of other major airports.

Some travelers say this is a real value-add for them, while others don’t see it as helpful. What do you think? Would you use this service if it were provided in an area convenient for you? If you’ve already used the service, what do you think of it?

I used to use the now discontinued remote checkin that American Airlines had at London’s Waterloo train station for flights out of Heathrow. It was wonderful. Take a cab to central London, get rid of your bags, take the subway to the airport, and then do all the airport rituals without having to schlep your luggage around.

LOVE IT!! I used a multi-airline kiosk at the Las Vegas Convention Center last week. Talk about taking one less hassle out of travel. For an extra fee, I could have checked my luggage there and had it shipped to the airport for just $20.
